Romantic dinner
Romantic Restaurant in Madrid: a Quiet Table and Nothing to Decide
A private table for two, the later sitting for a calmer room, and a tasting menu chosen at booking so the evening is not interrupted by decisions.
What makes a table work for two, and what gets in the way
- 01A private dining room table for one to six guests, with conventional service, chosen in the «zone» field when you book
- 02Two evening sittings, 19:00 and 21:30: the later one usually leaves the room quieter, which is the one detail most people forget to choose
- 03The menu is chosen at booking, so nobody reads a list at the table or compares dishes mid-conversation
- 04Vegetalia is pure plant cuisine and arrives 100% plant-based as standard, so a mixed table needs no negotiation
- 05Around two hours at the table, with the whole room following the same sequence: no waiting for a course while the conversation cools
That does not change because the table is celebrating something, and neither does the price: from €158 to €228 per person, published before you book.
Four decisions, all made before you arrive
-
1. Take the later sitting
19:00 or 21:30, Tuesday to Saturday and public holidays. The 21:30 sitting usually finds a calmer dining room. Same menu, same price, noticeably different evening.
-
2. Ask for a dining room table, not the counter
In the «zone» field of the booking engine. A dining room table is private, with conventional service, for one to six guests. The Chef's Table is a shared counter and a very different night.
-
3. Choose the line for the table
Vegetalia is pure plant cuisine, 100% plant-based as standard. Gastrobotánica is omnivorous, with fish and meat inside the menu. The menu is taken by the whole table, so it is one decision, not two.
-
4. Say what matters in the booking notes
An allergy, an anniversary, a preference for animal protein as seasoning on Vegetalia. Anything the kitchen needs travels with the reservation, never with the waiter.
Evenings we are asked about
-
SPEC. 01
A first dinner where you want to talk
Dining room table, later sitting. No à la carte means no menu-reading silence at the start, which is the awkward part of a first dinner at a restaurant like this.
-
SPEC. 02
An anniversary
Say so in the booking notes. We do not stage anything unless you ask, because a surprise that lands wrong is worse than none, but we would rather know than not.
-
SPEC. 03
A proposal
The later sitting leaves the room quieter towards the end of the service, which is usually when it happens. Tell us in the reservation and we will place you accordingly.
-
SPEC. 04
One of you eats plants, the other does not
This works without negotiation. Vegetalia is already 100% plant-based and Gastrobotánica is the omnivore line; the table takes one menu, so decide the line together when you book.
Questions about a table for two
Which sitting is better for a romantic dinner?
The 21:30 one, in most cases. The first service has finished and the dining room settles, so the room is quieter towards the end of your meal. Same menu and same price as 19:00.
Can we have a private table?
Yes. A dining room table is private, with conventional and personal service, for one to six guests. You choose it in the «zone» field of the booking engine. The alternative, the Chef's Table, is a shared counter beside the kitchen.
How long does dinner take?
Around two hours at the table. The whole room follows the same sequence, so there is no long wait between courses, and no rush at the end either.
Can you arrange flowers, a cake or a surprise?
Tell us in the booking notes what the evening is and we will tell you honestly what we can do. We do not stage anything by default: a surprise that misses is worse than no surprise at all.
What if one of us is vegan or vegetarian?
Nothing needs to be requested. Vegetalia is pure plant cuisine and arrives 100% plant-based as standard. What does travel with the booking is the opposite request, if you would rather we added animal protein as seasoning, and any allergy.
How much is it for two?
The price is per person and published: Vegetalia €158, Gastrobotánica €168, Vegetalia Experience €218 and Gastrobotánica Experience €228. The Experience versions include the pairing, so for two people that is the figure with drinks already inside.
Do you open on Sundays or Mondays?
No, we are closed. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday and on public holidays, in two sittings at 19:00 and 21:30; lunch is served only on Saturdays and public holidays, at 14:00.
Most guides to a romantic restaurant in Madrid rank rooms by how they look. That is not wrong, but it misses the two things that actually decide whether an evening for two works: how loud the room is, and how many decisions you have to make once you are sitting in it.
On the first, the honest answer is the sitting. We serve dinner in two fixed sittings, at 19:00 and at 21:30, Tuesday to Saturday and public holidays.
The later one usually leaves the dining room more settled, simply because the first service has finished and the room is not filling up around you. It is the same price, the same menu and the same table — and almost nobody thinks to choose it. If the evening matters, choose 21:30.
On the second, the format does the work. There is no à la carte here: only tasting menus, and the menu is chosen when you book. That means no list arrives at the table, nobody compares dishes, and nobody has to explain a diet out loud in front of the other person.

Vegetalia is pure plant cuisine and comes 100% plant-based as standard, so a table where one of you eats plants and the other does not resolves itself at the reservation stage rather than in the middle of dinner.
The last choice is the room. A dining room table is private, with conventional service, for one to six guests. The Chef's Table is a shared counter beside the kitchen where the chef plates in front of you — fascinating, and also a place where something is happening every minute.

For two people who came to talk to each other, the dining room table is almost always the right answer. You choose it in the «zone» field when you book, and it costs nothing.
A romantic restaurant in Madrid, judged by the two things that matter
Guides to romantic restaurants in Madrid rank rooms by how they look. Useful, but it skips what actually decides the evening: how loud the room is, and how many decisions you are asked to make once you are in it.
The sitting, which almost nobody chooses on purpose
Dinner runs in two fixed sittings, at 19:00 and at 21:30, Tuesday to Saturday and on public holidays. The later one usually finds a calmer dining room: the first service has ended and the room is no longer filling up around you. Same menu, same price, different evening. If the night matters, take 21:30.
A format that removes decisions
There is no à la carte. Only tasting menus, and the menu is chosen when you book, so no list arrives at the table and nobody compares dishes mid-conversation. Vegetalia is pure plant cuisine and comes 100% plant-based as standard, which means a mixed table sorts itself out at the reservation stage instead of over the first course.

Where to sit, and why it is not a detail
You choose in the «zone» field of the booking engine, at no cost.
The dining room table
Private, with conventional and personal service, for one to six guests. For two people who came to talk to each other, this is almost always the right answer.
The Chef's Table
A shared counter beside the kitchen for up to ten guests, where the chef cooks and plates in front of you. It is a remarkable way to spend an evening and a poor way to have a quiet conversation.

Before you book
The practical things, so the evening has no surprises in it.
What it costs for two
The price is per person and published: €158 for Vegetalia, €168 for Gastrobotánica, €218 and €228 for their Experience versions, which include water, bread, a cheese service, liqueurs and the pairing. There is no service charge and no corkage.
What to write in the booking notes
An allergy, an anniversary or a proposal, and whether you would like animal protein added as seasoning on Vegetalia. Everything the kitchen needs travels with the reservation, because produce is prepared ahead of the service and not improvised during it.
When we are open
Tuesday to Saturday and public holidays for dinner, at 19:00 and 21:30. Lunch only on Saturdays and public holidays, at 14:00. Closed Sundays and Mondays. Calle de Ponzano 85, in the Chamberí district of Madrid.
